Epoxy and cardboard on Birchbark 2016
A volcano becomes an island of forests,
in the middle of a mighty river.
Home of the Mohawk (Haudenosaunee)
Then the Holy settlement of Ville-Marie,
Mount Royal,
Montreal my city of français and english
and now the nations of the world come to us.

Atop Lyon mountain, a watch tower
To look across the valleys for fire and call out a warning
I took a warning in my soul.

Acrylic, Epoxy, Cardboard, Metal, Glass, and China on Birchbark on Plywood
81 x 46 inches 2016 nfs
This is one solid piece of Birchbark found in the woods by my friend Libby.
(Thanks Libby.)
When it was glued down on the plywood it became like a map or a landscape painting.
I included small interventions to distinguish the mountains.
Details will follow.

Acrylic and Coloured Pencil on Indian Rag Paper 12 x 8 inches 2012
This is the final image in a series of 20 paintings that were begun in London outside Tate Modern on August 14,2012. I started to draw at 6:45 pm and finished drawing at 10:00 pm, with no breaks. I was fascinated by the grove of Baltic Birch planted outside the Tate especially when the lights came on at 8: 30. I drew in graphite and after getting the composition down I took a photo of each scene for future reference. Then back in my studio in Montreal, using the photos as memory aids, I competed the paintings using acrylic paint and coloured pencils. To view the entire series click on City Paintings in Categories to the right of the page.
